ELIZABETH MÉTIS SETTLEMENT - RCMP are investigating the "suspicious deaths" of two people after being called to a structure fire in Elizabeth Métis Settlement on May 21.
On May 23, RCMP confirmed that Cold Lake RCMP had responded to a call on Township Road 610. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken carriage of the investigation.
"Upon arrival, emergency responders were able to remove one resident from the home, however they were deceased. Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze however the home suffered extensive damage," according to information from RCMP.
The remains of both people were taken to the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medial Examiner, where they are working with the RCMP to positively identify the remains.
Elizabeth Métis Settlement is located about 36 km south of the City of Cold Lake.
