Two killed in crash with moose near Conklin

Driver and one passenger killed, two other passengers were transported to hospital with minor injuries

As of Thursday lunchtime, a portion of Highway 881 near Conklin was still blocked due to a fatal crash earlier in the morning.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are reporting that two people were killed when a vehicle struck a moose about 20 kilometres north of Conklin. The crash took place at approximately 12:40 a.m. Police say the driver and passenger were killed, but two other passengers of the vehicle were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic along Highway 881 near the Kilometre 217 marker is being rerouted around the scene as the RCMP and a collision analyst were continuing to investigate.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are advising motorists of significant delays and to consider alternate routes.

RCMP say they will update the information at a later time.
