The high-selling bull of this year’s Brandl Cattle Co. sale March 13 was bought by a partnership for $30,000.

WESTLOCK - The 18th-annual Brandl Cattle Co. Bull Sale held March 13 at the family’s farm north west of Jarvie turned out to be a record setting event with the high-selling bull fetching $30,000.

Hosted by Byron and Gwen Brandl and their kids Kailey, Wynton and Landon, this sale looked slightly different than other years due to health regulations, but was run as close to normal as possible.  Despite the restrictions, a nice crowd was on hand for the sale, as well as 368 people from around the world who attended online — Brandl bulls found new homes right across the country from Houston, B.C. in the west to High Level in the north and as far east and south as Memphis and Missouri.

“We are so grateful for the support of our customers,” said Byron and Gwen following the sale. “We have been in operation for 45 years and this being our 18th-annual sale, every year is so different.  We are already looking forward to hosting our sale in 2022 when hopefully everything is back to normal.”

The lead-off Red Angus bull was Red BCC Brylor OTM Resolution.  This dark red yearling was sired by Red BCC Gator 18E and out of Red BCC Renee 44F.  He had an 82-pound birth weight and weaned off his two-year-old dam last September at an incredible 1,075 pounds.  His sale-day weight was 1,432 pounds with a 40-centimetre scrotal measurement and he sold for $30,000 to the partnership of Rack Red Angus, Meadow Creek Angus, and J&L Ranches, Claresholm.

The high-selling Black Angus yearling bull was BCC Home Town 43H.  This Jan. 18, 2020 son of Ellingson Homestead 6030 is out of BCC Heather 45C and is an excellent combination of low-birth weight and outstanding performance data.  He had a sale day weight of 1,396 and 36-centimetre scrotal measurement.  He fetched $9,250 from Brian and Peggy Cockell from Fort Assiniboine.

The high-selling Black Angus two-year-old bull was BCC Titlest 102G who weighed in at 2,054 pounds.  Born Feb. 14, 2019 with a birth weight of 67 pounds, he had a 205-day weight gain of 821 and a 365 day weight gain of 1,336 lbs.  He is sired by BCC Titlest 38E and out of BCC Lynn 37E.  He sold for $9,000 to Denny and Lynn Golden, Mayerthorpe.

The high-selling purebred Simmental bull was Brandl Super Power 57H.  Born Jan. 24, 2020 with a 95 pound birth weight, this solid red son of Kuntz Super Duty 4Y and TH Red Lass 11N had a sale-day weight of 1,365 pounds and a scrotal measurement of 41 centimetres.  He was purchased by Fred and Rita van de Ligt of Eastligt Farms and Feedlot at Jarvie for $5,750.

The high selling percentage Simmental was Brandl Break The Bank 18H.  Born Jan. 11, 2020 at just 80 pounds this son of BCC Poker Face 19E and from an Angus/Simmental dam had a sale-day weight of 1,316 pounds and a scrotal measurement of 36 centimetres.  He sold to Len Mueller at Dapp for $5,750

Volume buyers for the second year in a row were Meston Farms from Clyde purchasing four bulls.

A testament to the quality and commitment of the Brandl breeding program is that an unprecedented 92 per cent of the bulls sold to repeat customers.  Sales averages are as follows: 29 Black Angus averaged $5,672; 13 Red Angus averaged $6,780; seven Simmental averaged $5,142; 49 bulls averaged $5,890
