Excel Ranches sale tops $200K

High-selling bull fetches $8,000

The high-selling bull of the Excellence Bull sale held March 11 was this bull, Lot 35, Excel Polled Grayson 66G. He was purchased by Steven Abt of Ponoka for $8,000.

WESTLOCK - “We had a fantastic day,” says Amy Miller of this year’s fifth-annual Excel Ranches Excellence Bull Sale held at the Miller Ranch west of Westlock on March 11. She notes lots of the bulls went locally and many to repeat buyers, with some going to Saskatchewan and Manitoba as well.  

With auctioneer Dan Skeels on the mic, bulls sold very consistent throughout the sale, with a $213,000 gross to average $5,100 per bull.

The high-selling bull of the sale was Lot 35, Excel Polled Grayson 66G. The March 13, 2019 bull was purchased by Steven Abt of Ponoka for $8,000.

The second high-selling bull of the sale was Lot 7, Excel Polled Hat Trick 5H. The Jan. 13, 2020 bull was purchased by Robin Sauve of Dapp for $7,500.

The third high-selling bull of the sale was Lot 26, Excel Polled Heartland 30H. The Jan. 30, 2020 bull was purchased by Coyote Crossing of Athabasca for $7,250.

Volume buyer of this year’s sale was Orval and Rose Hayes of Smith.

Excel Ranches has been selling Limousin bulls for the past 33 years, and is operated by Ron and Barb Miller and son Cody and Amy Miller.
