Active cases of COVID-19 pop up again locally

A total of 10 active cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Westlock County and Athabasca County.

Active cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Westlock County and Athabasca, a sign that while the pandemic has eased, it is far from being over. 

According to the geospatial map that lists active COVID-19 cases in municipalities throughout Alberta, there are five active cases in Westlock County and five in Athabasca County. 

While there are no active cases in the County of Barrhead, four active cases have been identified in Woodlands County to the west (not including 13 cases in the Town of Whitecourt) and there are nine active cases in Lac Ste. Anne County to the south. 

At the beginning of August, there were no active cases throughout Westlock, Barrhead or Athabasca. 

In total, there are 3,380 active cases of COVID-19 throughout Alberta, an increase of 661 cases from Friday. A total of 129 Albertans are currently hospitalized and 26 are in the ICU. 

In terms of vaccinations, 51.4 per cent of all eligible residents in the County of Barrhead have received at least one dose. 

In Westlock County, 58.5 per cent of all eligible residents have received at least one dose. In Athabasca County, that percentage has risen to 59.2 per cent.
