ATHABASCA – The Athabasca Region Business Normalization and Resiliency Task Force will be contacting businesses in the Athabasca region to gather data.

At a June 11 meeting they finalized the questions on the survey, which will be available in both print and online, as well as identified various industries they need to contact.

“One of the things we said ... was that people are getting surveyed out. We are choosing to take a more personalized approach as opposed to just sending stuff out to folks. They’ll say it’s just another survey and put it aside,” said interim Tourism and Economic Development (TED) communications officer Luke Pantin.

Local entrepreneur Noel Major agrees that the personal touch is what is needed and the sooner the better.

“We need to get in front of the people. If I go to see a business person they’re going to talk to me and do the survey," he said.

The survey will include the basics like contact information but also asks about losses, interruptions and responses due to the pandemic. Questions also ask about any revenue losses and concerns about the endurance of the business.

The task force expects to start rolling out to meet with business owners starting June 17 and want to be done by July 22. There will be an online version as well for business owners who prefer that method.

All businesses in the Athabasca region are encouraged to take part in the survey, from store fronts to home based, and if they feel they might be missed they are encouraged to contact Pantin at the Athabasca County office – 780-675-2273 or [email protected]
