While the number of active COVID-19 continues to skyrocket around Alberta, the County of Barrhead has managed to hold the line with five active cases throughout the municipality.

On Nov. 23, the geospatial map that lists all COVID-19 cases within Alberta indicates that the County of Barrhead has five active cases and 22 recovered cases for a total of 27.

On Nov. 16, the county was listed as having five active cases and 21 recovered cases for a total of 26.

There are no active outbreaks listed in Barrhead and area schools, but Hillcrest Lodge is still listed as having an outbreak.

According to a press release posted to the Barrhead and District Social Housing Association’s website on Nov. 20, Alberta Health Services (AHS) will not remove that designation because they are still waiting for results on pending swabs.

“All outbreak protocols will be continued until the outbreak is officially declared over,” the release states. “We will post more information as it becomes available.”

Woodlands County is now listed as having one recovered case, while the Town of Whitecourt has nine active and 23 recovered cases.

Lac Ste. Anne County has a total of 99 cases, with 25 active cases, 70 recovered cases and four deaths.

During the Nov. 23 update, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw stated an additional 1,549 cases had been identified over the past 24 hours.

There are now 13,166 active cases throughout Alberta. A total of 328 Albertans are hospitalized because of the virus, while 62 are in ICU.

Hinshaw also reported an additional five new deaths for a total of 476 since this pandemic began.

She said she would be meeting with the priorities implementation committee of Cabinet to discuss new measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. A further announcement along those lines will be coming on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
