COVID-19 cases climb to 84 in County of Barrhead

Covenant Canadian Reformed School listed as having outbreak of 10-plus cases
Barrhead April 16 COVID Update (VM)
The geospatial map listing all COVID-19 cases within Alberta by municipality states there are currently 84 cases within the County of Barrhead.

Amidst what many are calling the “third wave” of COVID-19, the number of active cases identified within the County of Barrhead has shot up to 84 as of Friday evening.

That’s approximately six times as many active COVID-19 cases as there were on April 5, when the geospatial map that lists cases throughout Alberta stated the county had 14 cases.

By April 11, that number had increased to 58, demonstrating how quickly the virus can spread now that the more infectious variants are the dominant strain.

In addition to the 84 active cases, there have been 76 recoveries and two deaths, both of which occurred in 2020.

Covenant Canadian Reformed School in Neerlandia is listed as having an outbreak of 10-plus cases, while Barrhead Composite High School is still listed as having an outbreak of five to nine cases.

An alert is also in effect for Barrhead Elementary School where two to four cases have been identified.

Woodlands County to the west still has no active cases, but the Town of Whitecourt is listed as having 28 active cases.

Lac Ste. Anne County to the south is also listed as having 29 active cases, along with 444 recoveries and 11 deaths.

Provincially, there are currently 16,759 cases of COVID-19. A total of 423 Albertans are in hospital, including 93 in ICU. There have been 2,034 deaths.
