Prior to now, there have been no local deaths from the coronavirus in Barrhead, despite over 30 cases
Barrhead COVID Update for Dec. 2
The geospatial map maintained by Alberta Health that lists all cases of COVID-19 throughout the province now states there have been two COVID-related deaths connected to the County of Barrhead. It should be stressed that the map does not differentiate between the county and the town.

Two deaths in the Barrhead area are now attributed to COVID-19, according to the geospatial map that lists all COVID-19 cases within Alberta according to municipality.

The map was updated to coincide with Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement today regarding the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines to Albertans in 2021.

It now states there have been 33 cases within the County of Barrhead. Five are active, 26 have recovered and there have been two deaths.

Alberta Health does not share information regarding any specific cases of COVID-19 due to patient confidentiality.

However, two women in their 50s and 70s from the North Zone were among the 10 deaths reported at today’s news conference.

The North Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS) encompasses Barrhead, Westlock, Athabasca and most of northern Alberta.

Tom MacMillan, assistant director of communications for Alberta Health, noted the map generally reflects the information they have available regarding a patient’s primary address.

However, it should be stressed that there have been instances where new information regarding a patient’s residence comes to light.

The number of active COVID-19 cases throughout Alberta now stands at 17,144, with 1,685 new cases being identified in the last 24 hours.

A total of 504 Albertans are in hospital and 97 are in ICU. The death toll has risen to 561.

“My sympathies are with all the loved ones of these individuals, and anyone else who has passed away from any other cause,” said chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw at the news conference.
