Barrhead COVID Update Nov. 24
After holding steady for a week, the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the County of Barrhead has increased again and now stands at seven.

Two more active COVID-19 cases were identified within the County of Barrhead over the past 24 hours.

According to the geospatial map that lists COVID-19 cases throughout Alberta, the County of Barrhead now has seven active cases and 22 “recovered” cases for a total of 29.

On Nov. 23, the number of active cases stood at five, while the number of recovered cases was 22.

The map does not distinguish between the county and the Town of Barrhead, so it’s unclear if the active cases were identified in either municipality.

There are no outbreaks listed at Barrhead and area schools, though Hillcrest Lodge is listed as having an outbreak.

According to a press release posted to the Barrhead and District Social Housing Association’s website on Nov. 20, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is still awaiting results on pending swabs, and all outbreak protocols will remain in place until the outbreak is officially declared over.

Woodlands County has no active cases, though the Town of Whitecourt is listed as having eight active and 23 recovered cases.

Lac Ste. Anne County is now listed as having 101 cases of COVID-19. Twenty-three cases are active and there have been 73 recoveries. Sadly, there have also been four deaths.

The number of active cases throughout Alberta now stands at 13,349, with nearly half of those cases (6,128) in the Edmonton Zone.

A total of 348 Albertans are in hospital, with 66 in the ICU. The death toll has now increased to 492.

On Nov. 24, Premier Jason Kenney declared a state of public health emergency and announced mandatory restrictions on social gatherings, prohibiting indoor social gatherings entirely and limiting outdoor gatherings to 10 people. That includes funerals and wedding ceremonies.

He also announced that on Nov. 30, Grade 7-12 students throughout the province will begin at-home learning, though students in early childhood services and K-6 will continue learning in-person on Dec. 18.

All students will return to at-home learning after the winter break and resume in-person learning on Jan. 11, 2021.

He also announced a number of measures specific to regions that are under enhanced status. However, this does not include the County of Barrhead or Woodlands County.
