Historic Flavor: Boyle Pizza House in Former Church, Serving Up Community Spirit and Slices

BOYLE, AB — What do long-time Boyle residents, pizza aficionados, and local history buffs have in common? The answer isn’t a punchline, it’s the location of Boyle Pizza House, now serving up fan favourites inside the former St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

After 26 years of dough, sauce, and community love under the ownership of Darren Hill and his mother Charlotte, Boyle Pizza House has become a staple in the region. According to Town and Country readers, it’s home to the best pizza in the entire Athabasca, Barrhead, and Westlock areas.

But even the most beloved local gems need a refresh from time to time. Darren, along with Charlotte and his wife Dionne, realized that after more than a quarter century of serving up pizzas, it was time to expand and modernize. The location offers 1,500 square feet of indoor seating and kitchen space, plus an additional 500 square feet of open patio and a full basement, ensuring customers have more room to gather and enjoy their favorite pies.

The idea for the move began when the historic St. Paul’s Anglican Church was listed for sale in the fall of 2024. While some members of the Boyle Archives Committee had different hopes for the building, the Hill family saw an opportunity to preserve its spirit in their own way.

By breathing new life into the space, they’re giving the church a second chapter, not as a place of worship, but as a gathering place that continues to bring the community together over shared meals and memories.

The result? A one-of-a-kind pizzeria that seamlessly blends Boyle’s history with its passion for pizza. Whether you're coming for the crispy crust, the gooey cheese, or a slice of local heritage, Boyle Pizza House’s new home promises a warm welcome and a delicious bite every time.
