Memories of harvest past: An old 22-inch cylinder, 38-inch threshing area McCormick threshing machine sits beside the roadside in the Horntonville area northeast of Fawcett, idle for many years. Outward appearance suggest if the belts were in place, it would be ready to work on yet another harvest, though it probably has not been used for 40 years or more. Threshing machines were the latest in harvesting technology before combines were used and required a good deal of hand labour even before the grain was threshed. Farmers often worked together with owners of these machines, going from farm to farm to complete the harvest, back in the day when farms and grain fields were much smaller, and some only a handful of acres to harvest.
