DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts have two home games this weekend, against Sylvan on Friday and Airdrie on Saturday.

The team is currently in second place in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League north division standings with 14-13-6 record or 34 points, three up on the Rocky Rams. Sylvan leads the division with 54 points, eight points behind league leading Carstar Okotoks Bisons.

Haiden Parks leads the Colts in scoring with 23 goals and 24 assists.

“From here to the end of the season it’s important to put some wins together to keep the second spot,” said head coach Dan Visser.

The Colts split two road games last weekend, defeating Rocky Mountain House on Friday and falling to Sylvan Lake on Saturday.

Travelling to the Rocky arena Friday to take on the Rams, the Colts got goals from Jay Heistad (assists Mitchell McDermid and Corbin Rae), Steven Bell (assists Emmett Barnett and Simon Leischner), Bell again (unassisted), Harley Smith (assists Paton Rothenbusch and Wyatt Bailey), and Cohen Richardson (asset Haiden Parks) for the 5-4 win.

Colts netminder Brock Lott stopped 36 of 40 shots of the win.

On Saturday, the Colts travelled to the NexSource Centre in Sylvan to take on the Wranglers.

The Colts got goals from Richardson (assists Aidan Saunders and Parks), Saunders (assists Parks and Zane Labbe) and Richardson (assists Saunders and Parks) in a 9-3 loss.

Colts goalies Kyle Allan and Jordan McGinnis stopped a combined 40 of 49 shots.

Coach Visser said, “Friday the boys pulled through with a win. Saturday the first period (when the Colts scored three straight) I saw our most complete period and how we need to play every game.

“I think mentally we got away from that and that is when the wheel fell off. As a young team we need to learn to keep our composure and keep driving the play as I know they can.”
