ATHABASCA — A positive case of COVID-19 was reported at  Landing Trail Intermediate School in Athabasca today.

A media release from Aspen View Public Schools states it was notified the morning of Nov. 29 that one individual had been in close contact with 30 students and three staff, who have now been directed to stay home and Alberta Health Services (AHS) has contacted those people or their families directly.

“Aspen View and Landing Trail Intermediate School administration is diligently following Alberta Health Services guidance to ensure the necessary steps are taken to protect the health and safety of students and staff,” Supt. Neil O’Shea said.

The individual was identified as last being at the school Nov. 23 and Aspen View is asking all parents and students to continue to monitor for any signs or symptoms and to use the daily checklist.

It is unknown whether the case relates to a student or staff and no further information will be released to the public out of privacy concerns, but any relevant additional information will be relayed to parents or guardians as it becomes available. The school hosts students in Grades 4-6.

LTIS continues to operate with current protocols in place for all other students and staff, the release stated.
