Police investigation underway following Dec. 4 collision

WESTLOCK - An area man is lucky to be alive following a Friday-night collision between a pickup truck and semi on Highway 44 just south of the Town of Westlock.

Police, fire and emergency crews were called to the scene around 10:15 p.m. Dec. 4 after a semi truck travelling south on Highway 44 collided with a pickup truck that had been heading east on Township Road 594 — the entire front of the pickup was destroyed in the crash.

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird said Monday morning that the driver of the pickup truck driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the semi was not injured.

Traffic on Highway 44 was slowed for hours as crews worked to clear the scene of debris — the crash caused the semi to jackknife and block the road.

Baird said the collision is currently under investigation.
