Village of Clyde deputy mayor Nat Dvernichuk was censured July 13 for making inappropriate comments to a villager.

CLYDE—Village of Clyde deputy mayor Nat Dvernichuk was censured for making inappropriate comments to a resident.

The censure comes after the village received a complaint in June and followed up with an investigation. Details were given to councillors in-camera during the July 13 meeting.

"At this time, we'll wait until proper notification issues have been dealt with before we comment on (the complaint)," said CAO Ron Cust over the phone July 16.

Although details of the incident won’t be released, Cust clarified that Dvernichuk contravened sections 7.a and 7.b of the code of conduct bylaw. The latter states that “a councillor shall refrain from using indecent, abusive, insulting or discriminatory language, words or expressions.”

He was stripped of his deputy mayor title, his pay was cut in half to $250 monthly, and he can no longer sit on boards and committees on behalf of the village. The censure will last for six months.

Coun. Doug Nyal is taking Dvernichuk’s place as deputy mayor.

Dvernichuk was unable to comment, and mayor Christa Clausing didn’t respond to a July 16 request from TC Staff.
