WESTLOCK — Personal and wellness services can start to reopen next Monday, announced Health minister Tyler Shandro, by appointment only and for one-on-one services.

This includes hair salons and barber shops, nail salons, reflexology, piercing and tattoo parlors by appointment only.

Also on Monday, outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people will also be permitted, and funeral attendance numbers have been raised to 20 people, all respecting social distancing and mask-wearing rules. Receptions will continue to be banned.

“We made these decisions very carefully and these measures were eased based on the expertise and advice of our chief medical officer,” said health minister Tyler Shandro during today’s COVID-19 update.

He said the rules are not meant to be flexible and asked that they not be broken and people should continue working from home where possible.

The two new variants — one first found in the United Kingdom and another in South Africa — and are more infectious “require us to take a cautious and pragmatic approach,” Shandro said, but the government doesn’t want to tighten then reverse rules.

COVID-19 update coming soon.
