The search for a new CAO for Westlock County continues.

WESTLOCK - Westlock County will likely get a new CAO in January 2021, with council using a “new approach” to select their future employee.

Reeve Jared Stitsen couldn’t offer any details about that process without breaking confidentiality but said they’re making progress.

“We’re going through the process, council’s kind of taking a new approach on recruitment and we’re pretty confident that the recruiting firm we’re using is going to have some good candidates,” Stitsen said Dec. 17, after a special council meeting where they discussed CAO recruitment in camera.

Ex-CAO Leo Ludwig resigned Sept. 8 after a four-month health-related leave. Rick McDonald has been filling the interim role since May on what was originally supposed to be a three-month contract with a possible two-week extension.

McDonald told the Westlock News earlier this month that he was “hopeful” the process will be concluded in January 2021, and that interviews should be starting soon.

“It’s been fun, I have to admit. They (council) are a great group to work with. It’s a good community, good region, it hasn’t been stressful,” he said.
