WESTLOCK — A COVID-19 outbreak was declared Jan. 24 at a Westlock auto repair shop after four employees and one family member tested positive.
Tom McMillan, a spokesperson for Alberta Health, said the outbreak hasn’t resulted in any additional cases. As of Feb. 3, when the News reached out to McMillan, two cases were still active and three had recovered.
Lisa Boulerice, owner of Ed’s Auto Salvage, told News staff Feb. 3 via e-mail that the five people tested positive between Jan. 18 and 22. The shop was closed Jan. 22 until Feb. 1 despite Alberta Health Services advising them they could stay open.
“Any employees that were considered close contacts were mandated to quarantine for 14 days and all other employees were tested twice between the dates of Jan. 21 and Feb. 1 to confirm they were all negative,” Boulerice wrote.
An outbreak is declared in auto repair shops when five or more people test positive for COVID-19. It’ll be closed when four weeks pass without additional cases.
“Ed’s Auto Salvage wants to thank our customers for their continued support during this time,” Boulerice wrote.
