WESTLOCK – One person is dead following a crash between a semi-tractor trailer truck and SUV on Highway 44 just north of the Dapp Corner Store.

On Feb. 2 just after 11 a.m., Westlock RCMP, along with Westlock County and Town of Westlock fire crews and EMS, were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Highway 44 and Township Road 622, roughly 23 kilometres north of Westlock.

Westlock RCMP’s preliminary investigation indicates a semi heading north collided with a southbound SUV — the local detachment is now investigating the crash with the assistance of an RCMP Collision Analyst.

RCMP report the driver of the SUV was injured and the passenger of the SUV was declared dead at the scene — the driver of the semi was not injured. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Traffic on Highway 44 near the accident was restricted and opened to traffic in both directions around 4:25 p.m. RCMP are also advising motorists to use caution as road conditions are poor due to snow and icy patches.
