ATHABASCA - A 58-year-old Perryvale woman was pronounced deceased at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 2 Aug. 18, about three kilometres south of Athabasca.

Athabasca RCMP, fire department and emergency medical services were called to the scene of the accident at approximately 2 p.m. that day.

The initial investigation "indicates a pick-up truck was parked roadside as an item had fallen out of the box of the vehicle. One of the occupants was outside the vehicle when it was put in motion, subsequently being struck by the vehicle," said RCMP in an Aug. 19 press release.

Traffic on Highway 2 was restricted for the remainder of the afternoon with vehicles being turned around near the Lincoln County shop on the north end and at the Township Road 660 turnoff to the south.

RCMP are continuing their investigation and say the name of the woman will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.
