Athabasca RCMP responded to a call of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 813 April 21 near Calling Lake. A 75-year-old woman was pronounced deceased on the scene and four others in the vehicle were treated by EMS.

CALLING LAKE – A 75-year-old Calling Lake woman is dead following a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 813 April 21.

Athabasca RCMP were dispatched to the scene about 120 km north of Athabasca at approximately 11 p.m. after a 911 call reporting a pick-up truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident.

"Preliminary investigation indicates a pick-up truck was traveling southbound on Secondary Highway 813 and the 78-year-old driver from Calling Lake, lost control, entering the east ditch and causing the truck to roll multiple times," stated an RCMP media release received April 23, adding the investigation is still underway but "it is believed poor road conditions contributed to this fatality."

Fire fighters were also on the scene to assist with the extrication of the five occupants of the vehicle. Four of them were treated by emergency medical services,  but the 75-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released, and RCMP do not expect any further details.

The highway was restricted to traffic while the initial investigation took place, but fully reopened soon after.
