Tragic end to day-long search
Long Lake
The body of a man who disappeared after his dingy capsized at Long Lake Saturday was found by an underwater recovery team today.

BOYLE - The search for a 31-year-old man who disappeared after his dingy capsized on Long Lake Saturday afternoon concluded at 3 p.m. Sunday after an underwater recovery team found what everyone was hoping they wouldn't find.

An RCMP media release received just after 6 p.m. confirmed the body of the man had been recovered by the specialized team earlier in the afternoon.

Boyle RCMP responded to a 911 call for a possible drowning at Long Lake Provincial Park just after 2 p.m. July 3, and were joined by Lac La Biche RCMP, fire crews from Boyle and Thorhild, Alberta Fish and Wildlife, Alberta Parks and EMS soon after, as well as RCMP Air Services and Search and Rescue Divers.

"Witnesses reported a 31-year-old male had been on the water with a youth, when the dingy they were in capsized," said an RCMP media release received Sunday morning. "Witnesses were able to grab the youth and get them to safety, however the adult male disappeared under the water."

The search continued until night fall and resumed at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

"The Boyle RCMP would like to thank all area search and rescue teams for their assistance, and offers their condolences to the family of the deceased. No further updates will be provided."

Long Lake Provincial Park is located approximately 20 kilometres south of the Village of Boyle.
