WESTLOCK—The Town of Westlock is demolishing the Commerce Building that burned down over the weekend.

There will be no access on 100 Avenue between 105 and 106 Street, the town says, and advises residents to adjust routes and avoid the area.

The downtown building that used to house Dr. Georges L. Whissell’s clinic in the 1940s caught in fire in the middle of the night Sunday. Two people who lived there were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were putting out hot spots this morning too, before the demolition began.

A fire investigator was on scene Sunday, looking into the causes. No updates are available yet into what led to the incident.
