The provincial government released a new mapping display system May 18 for regional vaccination progress.

WESTLOCK — Close to 42 per cent of the population in the Westlock region have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The provincial government has released a vaccination map today, similar to the one currently in use for COVID-19 cases, that displays the progress in community and offers breakdown in percentages and actual numbers for each age category.

The Westlock region includes Westlock County, the Town of Westlock and the Village of Clyde.

So far, 85 per cent of people over 75 have received at least one dose; 73 per cent of people aged 60-74; 47 per cent aged 40-59; 22 per cent aged 20-39 and 17 per cent aged 12-19.

In total, 7,949 or 41.6 per cent of people in the region have at least one dose.

The regional progress report is very similar to that of the province. In Alberta, 42.2 per cent have received one dose, and 7.4 per cent are fully immunized with both doses.

Regional numbers for those fully immunized are not yet available, although across the province, 74 per cent aged over 75 are fully immunized. The numbers dip to just nine per cent among people aged 60-74, and even lower in younger populations.

In Barrhead, 38 per cent of people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Athabasca sits just above the provincial average with a 44 per cent vaccination average.

Every Albertan over the age of 12 can book an immunization appointment through Alberta Health Services or some local pharmacies. Currently, only Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are offered as first doses. The provincial government recently announced that uncertainties in future supplies of Astra-Zeneca doses have prompted a decision to offer the remaining 250,000 doses for full immunization.
