ATHABASCA/BARRHEAD/WESTLOCK — Environment Canada extended a warning for winter storms in the Town & Country area this morning.

The warning is in effect for Athabasca, Barrhead, Westlock, southern MD of Lesser Slave River, Thorhild County and Woodlands County until at least later in the evening.

Environment Canada also expects gusty wind to cause blowing snow and difficult driving conditions later in the afternoon.

Snowfall could reach 10 to 20 cm, and areas south of Cold Lake could see five mm of ice build-up due to freezing rain.

A winter storm warning is issued when multiple types of severe weather are expected to happen at the same time.
