Thorhild County - A 41-year-old Sturgeon County woman is dead following a collision with a moose on Highway 63.

RCMP from Redwater were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident involving a collision with the moose Aug. 3 at approximately 11:30 p.m. The woman, whose name will not be released, was declared deceased on the scene and a child in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The initial investigation shows the woman was driving southbound on Highway 63 near Township Road 622 when she struck the moose, said police in an Aug. 5 press release. A northbound truck then struck the moose a second time. Four people in that vehicle received minor injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, but do not expect to release further updates.
