Calling Lake - A woman is dead and four others are in serious, life-threatening condition after an SUV went off the road in Calling Lake last Sunday.

Athabasca RCMP responded to a call of a single-vehicle accident on Calling Lake Dr., in the Hamlet of Calling Lake Oct. 11, around 6 p.m. The 19-year-old woman driving the SUV was declared deceased on the scene. An adult passenger and three youth of unspecified ages were transported to hospital — two to a local hospital, and two of the youth to Edmonton via STARS Air Ambulance.

"Preliminary investigation revealed a SUV was travelling southbound on Calling Lake Drive when it veered off the road into the ditch. Five occupants were inside," stated an RCMP media release received Oct. 13.

The Athabasca detachment and RCMP collision analyst continue to investigate, but the name of the deceased and other updates are not expected to be released.
