It’s been a rough start to the season for the North Central Midget AA Bulls as they have yet to win a game in five tries.
The latest loses came this weekend, falling 5-3 in Edmonton Saturday to the Maple Leafs and then losing at home Sunday at the Multiplex 8-6 to Whitecourt.
Head coach Jody Tangedal believes his team hasn’t yet adjusted to the speed or tempo of the AA game and that’s giving them a lot of problems.
“We are having trouble recognizing when we should back up and play it safe, versus when to jump up and join the rush,” Tangedal said.
One thing that will help the club is the return of Zach Bendall following his tryout stint at Midget AAA.
“With Zach in the line up, he will help ensure we are in most games,” explained Tangedal.
“Now it’s just a matter of every player doing his small part to get us some wins.”
On Saturday, the Bulls went down a goal just 39 seconds into the game, but roared back to take a 3-1 lead with goals from Shane Witney, Alvin Halter and Derek Greene over a six minute span midway through the first period.
Unfortunately, that would be the only scoring for the Bulls on the night.
Sunday’s afternoon contest was completely the opposite, as the Bulls were down 4-0 after only eight minutes.
However, the team battled hard to score the next four goals and tie the contest.
Sean Greene got the first one with five minutes left in the first, followed early in the second on goals by Jackson Roth, Witney and Orrie Wood.
Treyton Tangedal got a goal late in the period that tied it at five, but three quick Whitecourt goals in the third ended the threat. Treyton would add one more in the third, but the Bulls would get no closer.
The Bulls are back in action in another home game at the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche Saturday against the Edmonton South Side Athletic Club. Puck drop is at 6:15 p.m.
