Following on the heels of the Midget Hawks league title, the PeeWee B Hawks have brought another title back to Athabasca.
The club polished off Swan Hills, who finished the regular season on top and handed the Hawks their only loss on the season, taking the best-of-three final in the deciding game in Swan Hills Mar. 22 by a count of 6-3.
This came after winning the opening game on the road 7-5 a week earlier and losing at home 8-5 Mar. 21.
Head coach Jordan Walega really wanted to face Swan Hills.
“Our record this year was 13 wins, one loss and four ties. This series was payback,” he said.
“We had a well rounded team and they had two key players. When we took them off the puck, the rest of their team couldn’t stop us.
Scoring first was key, as all of the Hawks playoff games saw the winning team notch the first goal. They did just that, but also didn’t get down when Swan Hills came back to take the lead.
He added it was great to see the explosion of emotion when the buzzer went and that he was very happy with the victory as the effort and heart the kids put in all season.
