An Athabasca cross country skier came away with a podium finish at the recently concluded 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Maya MacIsaac-Jones, who now lives in Canmore as she trains for with the Canadian National Junior Cross Country Ski team and is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Racers club, was part of Team Alberta at the Games held in Prince George, B.C. from Feb. 13 to Mar. 1.
MacIsaac-Jones walked off with the bronze in the 10 km Freestyle last Thursday in what was a photo finish for the silver. Her finishing time of 26 minutes, 57.4 seconds was just one-tenth of a second behind a Quebec athlete.
MacIsaac-Jones also did well her other individual events - placing 12th in the 1.4 km Classic sprint qualifer on Feb. 24, then second in her quarterfinal and third in her semi-final before ending up in eighth spot in final.
As well, she finished up in fifth in the 7.5 km Classic event Feb. 23 and just missed out on another medal, placing fourth as part of the team in the 3.75 km relay on Saturday.
