Athletes from local schools competed for medals at the event.

In girls singles, Boyle’s own Samantha Getty won gold, besting Tara Kolisnyk from Thorhild.

In boys singles, Edwin Parr Composite’s Neil Topola won gold with his schoolmate Robbie Mason getting silver.

In girls doubles, gold went to Boyle School’s Montana Getty and Shania Whitford while Thorhild’s Alexa Andrushyshyn and Alison Bilski got silver.

Winning gold in boys doubles was the Grassland School team of Linden Gauthier and Mason Evancusky with Boyle School’s Phil Sigurdur and Kyle McDonald getting silver.

Finally, mixed doubles gold went to Thorhild’s Sarah Feledichuk and Shawn Lee with Cassie Nicol and Jessie Balan, also from Thorhild, getting silver.

It was a good badminton season for all ages, according to Boyle School’s Darrell Bergmann.

“It was tons of fun. Everyone learned a lot and played a lot of badminton,” he said.

“I was very pleased with our regional results.”

EPC coach Erin Francis was also impressed with the effort of the badminton players at her school this year.

“There are lots of strong athletes,” she said. “There are lots of Grade 10’s and junior players, which is promising for the next couple years.”
