The Bantam Westlock Rock lacrosse team beat the South Edmonton Warriors twice in row on Saturday, during a double-header at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre.

The Rock took scored a 10-5 victory in Game 1 and backed it up a few hours later with an 8-4 triumph to continue a season that’s been full of highlights.

“Last year the scores were the other way around,” said coach Shane Boulerice. “We have built over a year, learned more of the game and how to play better.”

After running two games so close together, Boulerice was happy with how the team went but can also see room for improvement.

The club hit the court hard in the first period of the second game, but once they jumped out to a five-goal lead, they took their foot off the gas a little.

“We kind of played out at the end,” Boulerice said. “With the temperature outside and then the temperature in the area and playing in the morning, I think we did enough in the first period-and-a-half to secure the win.

“I think we still have to work on our conditioning. It’s going to get hotter and games are going to get tougher as we go into the playoffs.”

The team now has about six games left in the regular season and is sitting with a healthy 6-2 record.

With no home games left after this last weekend of action, the club has some long bus rides on the horizon.

“I think we have a few games against some tougher teams, so that will be a good test for us,” Boulerice said. “We should be able to match what they have for skill and our work ethic usually puts us over the top.”
