It was over after the first period.
For the Barrhead Steelers, the regular season home game played on Feb. 23 against the Maskwacis Hawks was a chance to practice their puck handling and ended in a 9-1 victory.
While their opponents broke the ice and scored first, barely one minute into the game, the Steelers answered back with a vengeance eight minutes into the frame with a goal from Luke Szybunka, followed up five minutes later by a goal from Jeremy Devries and Landon Petiot finished the period off with his first goal of the game.
With the score 3-1 for Barrhead, the Steelers continued to press the Hawks in the second period and managed to score a total of five additional goals.
Leading the fray a minute-and-a-half into the game, Jeremy Devries scored off a rebound from teammate Frank Scholten’s blocked shot.
Brendan Bujold followed it up three minutes later, on an assist from Robert Geis and Steelers player Devyn Kerr carried the momentum farther, scoring two goals on a set of powerplays.
And the Steelers weren’t finished yet.
With the score now 7-1 and only seconds remaining in the period, Petiot rushed the Hawks goaltender and scored again.
In the third period, Petiot scored his third goal and the final goal for the Steelers.
