The Barrhead Orange Orioles Midget AA team defeated their rivals from Athabasca soundly, by a score of 16 to 5.
The Orioles took an early 1 to 0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. Even though the Athabasca tied the game in the second inning, the game was never in doubt. Especially after the Orioles scored five runs in the third inning and another 10 in the fourth. Athabasca closed out the game scoring two runs at the top of the fifth inning.
Barrhead coach Steve Hunter said he was very pleased with how his team competed.
“We played really strong defensively and when we were at bat we hit the ball well and kept it in play,” he said.
The win against Athabasca was the team’s fourth straight victory, winning their first two games handily by scores of 10 to 2 and 9 to 2 against Stony Plain and Whitecourt. In their third game they faced their Barrhead rivals, the Black Orioles, winning by a narrow one run margin, 5 to 4.
The Orange Orioles next game is at home against Whitecourt on Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30 p.m.
