Barrhead Peewee Flyers start year on winning note

The Barrhead Peewee Flyers held off their closest rivals, the Westlock Warriors, in the dying seconds of a home game to hold on to a 4 to 3 victory, on Saturday, Jan. 2.

The Barrhead Peewee Flyers held off their closest rivals, the Westlock Warriors, in the dying seconds of a home game to hold on to a 4 to 3 victory, on Saturday, Jan. 2.

With just a little over a half minute to go Barrhead Flyer captain,Colin Lovich, took a hooking penalty in the defensive zone. The Warriors, called a time-out and pulled their goaltender, however the Flyers held Westlock to the outside perimeter to secure the win.

The Barrhead Flyers opened the scoring at about the 14 mark of the first period on a goal by Kolby Miller. This is despite spending the majority of the opening minutes in their own zone. However, by about the mid mark of the period the Flyers got their legs going and they ended the period leading by one and outshooting Westlock 11 to seven.

In the second period Westlock tied the game on a goal by Jonathen Servage at the 9:30 mark. The Warriors then took the lead 2 to 1 on a goal by Blain Renas.

Barrhead tied it back up again two-and-a-half minutes later thanks to Connor Kincaid.

The game remained tied until the nine minute mark of the third when the Flyer’s Koby Miller scored his second goal of the game.

Westlock tied it up once again on Jonathen Servage’s second goal.

Barrhead took the lead for good on a power play goal by Riley Jones with about seven minutes remaining.
