The Barrhead Swim Club came away with a total of two gold, three silver and four bronze medals from their first meet of the year, which was hosted by the Penguin Swimming Club at MacEwan University in Edmonton on Nov. 2.

The Barrhead club brought a total of 18 swimmers to the closed invitational meet, which was attended by seven other swim clubs.

“They did well for their first meet,” said club registrar Jaclyn Miller, noting that many of their swimmers had never attended a meet before.

Swimmers were slotted into different categories depending on age. Sydney Miller, who was born in 2005, was in a 13 and over category, meaning that she competed against other swimmers who were in the 17 and 18 age range.
