The Blackhawks are heading into the Christmas break on a five-game undefeated streak.

They emerged from the weekend with two ties following three successive victories.

On Sunday, the Midget B side played to a 2-2 stalemate against Redwater, with Cora Rosychuk and Ashleigh Yelland scoring the goals in the first and third periods. The result was preserved by a huge save in the last couple of minutes.

Coach Lee Abernathy felt the Blackhawks deserved more from the road game at Provident Place, formerly Redwater Multiplex.

“We outplayed Redwater, but just couldn’t put the puck in on a lot of our chances,” he said.

It was a much more impressive display than Friday night’s lacklustre effort against EG717 at the Grand Trunk Arena.

“The girls played uninspired hockey for most of the game and were fortunate to get the point,” said Abernathy.

Nevertheless the 4-4 tie ensured they continued their unbeaten run.

Jamie Chomay opened the Blackhawks’ account with a goal at 13:10 in the first period, assisted by Jessica Morgan and Casey Vick.

Morgan then scored at 5:27, with Chomay this time the provider. It wasn’t until the third period that the Blackhawks found the net again through Shonda Rossman and Morgan.

The tie came just five days after the Blackhawks made it three wins in a row with a 2-0 victory against EG715 at the Legal Arena.

Morgan pounced at 16:47 in the first period, assisted by Jamie Chomay, to put the Midget ‘B’ on their way to victory.

Asheligh Yelland then doubled the advantage at 17:26 in the second period, assisted by Cora Rosychok.

Abernathy praised goalie Jordan Adams for coming up with key saves in the Dec. 11 game.

“She wasn’t busy but made a couple of big saves including a huge sliding pad save on a breakaway to earn her third shut out of the year,” he said.

He added: “The girls extended their winning streak to three games. We played as a team once again with a lot of nice passing and great support.”
