The home team was simply overmatched in a pair of games they needed to have a shot heading to provincials.

The Boyle Huskies senior boys volleyball squad played host to the 1A boys zone playoff tournament on Saturday, but ended their season with a fourth place result.

The boys came out strong in their first two round robin games, posting relatively easy victories against Covenant Canadian Reformed School from Neerlandia and Kitaskinaw, located near New Sarepta.

However, they couldn’t seem to replicate any of that success against Thorhild in their last round robin match.

That loss pitted them against Grand Trunk of Evansburg in the semifinal, losing to them for the third straight year in this tournament. The Huskies then fell in the bronze medal game to Spruce Grove’s Living Water Academy in three sets.

Darrell Bergmann, one of the coaches, said he was pleased with the team’s play throughout the season, but that they were outmatched against both Thorhild and Grand Trunk on the day.

“They both gave nothing away and were strong, well coached teams who were very difficult to beat,” he said.
