Girls volleyball is on a championship roll in the junior ranks at Boyle School.

The Huskies junior girls volleyball A-team, consisting of seven Grade 9 players and just two Grade 8s, won their zone final tournament against some stiff competition.

Not only that though, the team didn’t lose a game throughout the tournament that was held in Warburg.

“The girls certainly picked the right time to peak,” said assistant coach Troy Sachko.

“Even though it looked like the girls cruised to the title, all of the games we played were really hard fought and mostly close contests.”

The Huskies opened the tournament on Friday with a two set victory over Covenant Canadian Reformed School from Neerlandia.

They followed that up with another straight sets win over Legal and then defeated the host Warburg team to close out the round robin on Saturday morning.

The other pool had Breton, Niton Junction, Grassland and Pembina North.

The top two in each pool advanced to the playoffs and the Huskies got by Pembina North in two sets in order to face the hosts from Warburg in the final.

“We have a really strong group of girls right now,” added Sachko.

“They have a really high skill level and work very hard to play a brand of volleyball that most can’t do at this age.”

The fact the girls won this season-ending event didn’t come a surprise to Sachko, but wasn’t expected either after the team finished second, losing out to Grassland, in the divisional tournament the previous weekend.

B-team wins too

And to complete the unique junior girls volleyball championship double, the Huskies B-team captured their top spot in their regional tournament over the weekend as well.

“It seems the girls at Boyle School have certainly developed a taste for playing volleyball with such skill and at a high level,” he added.a high level,” he added.
