It was a hard weekend for the senior girls basketball squad.

The Boyle Huskies team were in Westlock for a tournament and found themselves dealing with a short bench after injuries left them with just six players for their final two games.

The club fell in their opener to Hay Lakes where they only had seven players in the lineup due to injury issues already.

Their next games against Westlock’s RF Staples was even less pretty, losing by a bundle and losing another player with an injury in the process.

However, the club rebounded to capture their final match of the tournament versus Hinton.

Head coach Mandy Oberg was very proud of her squad for persevering through what was a tough situation.

“Yes, there are something that we still need to improve upon, such as rebounding and cutting across the paint, but overall the girls did an excellent job in our win as we took a good lead early and held on,” said Oberg.

The club is off to a tournament in Vegreville, along with the senior boys team, this coming weekend, before hosting their annual tournament on Mar. 6 and 7 at Boyle School.

Oberg is hoping the pair of tournaments help their preparation for zones on Mar. 13 and 14.
