After another pair of losses for the North Central Midget AA Bulls, head coach Jody Tangedal is hoping to have his crew improve a couple of things over the final few weeks of the season.
The Bulls weren’t able to keep up with a faster and more aggressive Beaumont club in a 7-1 loss at the Multiplex on Saturday. They followed that up with a 7-3 loss in Leduc Sunday, a game where Tangedal said his team didn’t initiate enough and spent most of the game chasing their opposition.
Zach Bendall scored the Bulls lone goal in a penalty-filled affair Saturday, while Bendall, Iver Steffes and Alvin Halter did the scoring on Sunday.
The Bulls next action is Friday night at the Multiplex when they take on the Strathcona Bruins, Game time is 8:30 p.m.
Special meeting
The AA hockey program was also in the spotlight last week, but for a different reason.
Athabasca District Minor Hockey Association held a special meeting last Thursday to discuss Hockey Alberta’s (HA) re-drawing of the zones used to make up AA hockey teams.
ADMHA president Darcy Tangedal said the result of the meeting was a letter being sent to HA expressing their disappointment with the new draw zones.
Tangedal didn’t want to go on the record as HA is still considering possible changes, the Advocate was able to get a look at the letter.
In short, the biggest complaint is distance players wanting to play AA hockey next season would have to travel much farther distances than they do now and ADMHA has asked them to reconsider proposed recruitment areas with a suggestion put forth that would see Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Boyle, Plamondon, Good Fish Lake and Kikino as one area.
Three other recruitment area suggestions were also made. It isn’t known when Hockey Alberta will respond.
