A call up to the Barrhead Blackhawks made a big impression on the coaching staff.

Jordan Adams of the Barr-head Angelz suited up for the Blackhawks on the weekend, but despite a strong effort from Adams, the Blackhawks dropped both games.

The Blackhawks went up against the Edson Selects in a provincial playdown game on Mar. 5 and lost 5-3. The Blackhawks also hosted a league playoff game against the Spruce Grove Thunder, losing 5-2.

“Jordan played really well. We didn’t help her by not playing the whole 60 minutes,” said Blackhawks coach Lance Schmaus.

Adams showed poise and focus, as her stellar play kept the games close. She came up with timely saves in key moments but couldn’t do it all.

The Blackhawks were the aggressors the whole game and took it to the Selects early, establishing a 2-1 lead and out-shooting their opposition 10-8 as the first period came to a close.

“The aggression is good, it’s gets this team going,” said Schmaus.

By the time the second period buzzer went, the game took on a different slant as the Selects drew even with the Blackhawks, by scoring twice in the frame to tie the game at 3-3.

The Blackhawks had plenty of chances in the third period but couldn’t capitalize.

Adams stood tall for the final 20 minutes of the game. But, a defensive miscue resulted in the Selects scoring the go-ahead goal, when a wrap around attempt found an unchecked Selects’ forward who didn’t miss the net with her shot.

“We didn’t finish a lot of our back checking like we normally do. This team is a lot better than we showed tonight,” said Schmaus.

It didn’t get any easier on Mar. 6 as the Blackhawks played their second of back-to-back games.

Adams didn’t get the start in the game against the Thunder, but she was called into the action early in the first period, only after the Thunder had scored three goals in the first five minutes of the game.

“It was alright getting called in, but it was kind of hard coming in like that.

“I just told myself to play hard. The girls were really supportive,” said Adams.

The Blackhawks struggled to find the back of the net, while Adams allowed only two goals the rest of the game.

“We hope she can stay with us the rest of the way. She’s been a great call up,” said Blackhawks manager Dawn Properzi.
