The Barrhead Steelers took on the Innisfail Kinsmen Flyers last Friday, and came out triumphant despite a rocky third period.
The Steelers were on fire in the first, wasting no time bringing on the heat. Just five minutes into the game, Barrhead player Nick Perdaems put the first point on the board, assisted by Declan Kummer and Brandt Morris.
Minutes later, the Steelers struck again. Aaron Wharton, assisted by Nathan Schmidt and Brad Bujold, hammered Innisfail with another goal.
With the score already 2-0, the Steelers weren’t finished. With only two minutes left in the first, Eric Schmidt charged down the ice for a goal, assisted by Jordan Smith and Nathan.
Just when the crowd thought things couldn’t get any more exciting, the Steelers brought their play to the next level. Mere seconds remaining on the clock, Brett Bujold scored for Barrhead singlehandedly.
Going into the second period, the Barrhead boys were doing well with a 4-0 lead.
It wasn’t until the 12 minute mark that the Flyers were able to make their move and get a goal of their own.
With the score at 4-1, the Steelers prepared to retaliate. At three minutes to go, Brett scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Nathan.
Heading into the third, Barrhead was up 5-1. However their game began to deteriorate, and Innisfail scored twice within one minute.
With 10 minutes left, the Flyers swiftly landed another goal on the Steelers. The score sat at 5-4, and the game could go either way.
However, the Steelers managed to defend their lead and left the ice with a victory.
