It was a great day for heels on wheels for meals.
Fourteen cycling enthusiasts turned out on Sunday afternoon to help Barrhead Food Bank.
They arrived at the Family and Community Support Services parking lot loaded with food donations.
Then they took part in a 36-kilometre Manola Loop ride, setting off in blustery but mild conditions.
The group included Pam Graham, Karen Wierenga, Tonya Card, Cory Card, Diane Sutherland, Del Sutherland, Joan Jansen, Amanda Semler, Dagmar Visser, Kathy Gelderman, Jo Ann Nanninga, Anna Churchill, Christine Andrukiewicz and Carla Carlson.
Also present was Margaret Osborne, who brought food, but didn’t cycle.
The fun event was organized by Barrhead’s cycling club, Women on Wheels.
It was open to anyone aged over 16 with a cycle, male or female.
“I thought it was a very good turn-out,” said WOW member Jo Ann Nanninga, who is in training for the annual Barrhead Queen of Hearts triathlon in September.
“People brought along lots of food.”
Nanninga said most of the cyclists completed the course in about two hours.
WOW has been going six years. The club’s season started on Saturday with a “go-at-your-own rate Pace Ride.”
On Saturdays men are welcome to take part, but on other days it is ladies only. Club members should be over 18 and own a decent bike.
Would-be members should contact Lois at 780-674-6126 or Karen at 780-674-5361.
