You can’t win them all.
The Athabasca Trappers Bantam league team lost both of their games last Saturday at the Multiplex.
The Trappers lost their first game 18-5 against the Spruce Grove White Sox. The Sox currently lead the league as the first team overall.
“They’re the strongest team in the league right now,” said assistant coach Alan Caldwell. “We played a pretty good game, a few little mistakes here and there.”
Despite the loss, the Trappers didn’t go down without a fight.
“They worked hard and kept battling, so overall they did pretty well,” he said.
In the second match, the Newton Knights beat out the Trappers 12-6.
Caldwell said the afternoon sun, coupled with the two games in one day, had an effect on the players.
“It’s the second game of the day and it’s hot this afternoon,” he said, “so just trying to stay focused for the second game, it’s tougher. They’re a little tired and it’s later in the day.”
For the next few games, Caldwell and head coach Doug Steffes will be working the team on tightening their defense and staying focused.
The team has three more games left in their season before playoffs on June 20. The Trappers sit in second place.
