The Barrhead Eagles triumphed over their Onoway counterparts in a league playoff game Feb. 22, winning 15-2.

In the first period, Barrhead scored seven unanswered goals.

Trysten Hallock led the foray, scoring three and a half minutes into the period, with an assist from Tray Preuss and was followed by four goals from Kyle Kleinfeldt and two from Watnab Tawfik, bringing the score to 7-0.

Seven minutes into the second, Cesar Marquez added to Barrhead’s lead, managing to get one past Onoway Eagles goalie Kiefer Owen-Bilida.

With the score now 8-0, Onoway got on the scoreboard with two of their own and Barrhead ended the period with three more goals by Hallock, Preuss and Ethan Grossenbacher.

Heading into the third period, the score was 11-2.

Barrhead cemented their easy victory with two goals by Kleinfeldt, and one each from Tawfik and Hallock respectively.

“We had a rough start to the season, but had a fresh group of players and needed to build some chemistry,” head coach Robin Hallock said, adding that having found it, the team found themselves on a winning streak and made it to the second round of provincials.

Hallock said the team placed third in a tournament held in Stettler in January.

“We also finished off the regular season in second place for our tier,” he said.

“Cesar Marquez has had a great season leading the team and the entire tier, in terms of points, with 52 total. It is great to see and one of the reasons why we finished the season so strong.”

Hallock said it is not about the individual player however.

“We don’t earn wins on any given day based on any one player,” he said, adding it is always a full team effort.

“The team also has had the privilege to play confidently in front of their two goalies, Julian Uden and Rayce Walker, who finished the regular season off ranked 4th and 5th out of 22 goalies in the division.”

Hallock said a strong defence from assistant captain Emma Weeks, and team captain Trysten Hallock has helped the goalies.

“We won the first league playoff game 15-2 and await the results from Camrose and Strathcona to see whom the next hurdle will come from that we have to get by, in terms of continuing our efforts to bring home the gold banner for tier five,” Hallock said, adding the loss of Jett Parks due to a concussion has the team anxiously awaiting his return.
