The Edwin Parr Composite School co-ed cheerleading team placed third at the Alberta High School Athletic Association Provincials Tournament last Saturday in Edmonton.

Head cheerleading coach Barb Lachance had nothing but praise for her team.

“We did fabulous,” she exclaimed. “It was so much more on time, so much sharper, so much more energetic and enthusiastic. It was incredible.”

Provincials were held at Harry Ainlay High School last Friday and Saturday. Sixteen teams competed in the two-day event.

Lachance decided she didn’t like an aspect of the routine and decided to change it two days before provincials.

“A week before the competition we changed the pyramid,” she explained. “We added it to the routine and I was totally amazed. We had one day of practice with it.

“Usually it takes weeks and weeks to learn it,” she continued. “They just pulled their socks up and went for it.”

Lachance stated the team was only two points away from being in second, and four points away from being first.

“It was pretty amazing,” she said. “We are the third top team in the province of Alberta in the coed division.”

Overall Lachance said it was a team effort.

“I was so proud of my team, the sportsmanship they displayed this year was phenomenal,” she said.

She also said the amount of EPC fans in the crowd was outstanding.

“We had our own cheerleading team in the stands,” she said. “The parents that came out to support was incredible. The stands were full of EPC parents.”
