It was a good defensive game played by the EPC Pacers Friday as they lost 3-0 to Wainwright.

“We just got to work more on our fundamentals in our offence,” said Pete Burden, the team's coach. “Defensively, I think, we're doing alright, but offensively, we move the ball, move the ball, then we turn it over.”

The game, itself, said Burden, was well matched, with Wainwright slightly bigger on the lines. However, the Pacers just had a problem following through.

“We had opportunities to score points, but unfortunately we had three turnovers inside their 10 yard line,” he said. “We should've had three touchdowns, but we came away with no points at all.”

In the first half of the game, Wainwright was stuck at one point and it stayed like that until the fourth quarter when the Pacers gave up two points trying to “give up a field position.”

“We probably should've deserved a better fate. We actually played extremely well,” he continued. “We just made a few mistakes, a couple fumbles and some dropped passes.”

The defence, though, did a great job.

“(They) didn't give up,” he explained “I think we only gave up one really big play over 20 yards. The rest was all small stuff. The stuff we worked on all week in practice, we actually did it properly this time in the game and it made quite a bit of difference.”

The team will be playing a “tough game” in Lloydminster next week and will be back home to play Vermillion on Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.
