EPC sends six to track &field provincials

Following strong performances at the zone track meet in Edmonton May 16, seven Edwin Parr Composite School athletes advanced to provincials in Lethbridge last weekend.

Following strong performances at the zone track meet in Edmonton May 16, seven Edwin Parr Composite School athletes advanced to provincials in Lethbridge last weekend.

Sarah Meyer, who qualified second in the discus at zones, had a strong showing at provincials placing fourth with a distance of 29.71 m.

Meyer also placed 13th in the 1500m Intermediate. She was the top finisher in that event at zones.

Kelcie Bulas placed first in both the 1500m and 3000m Junior at zones. At provincials, she placed seventh in the 3000m and eighth in the 1500m.

Sydney Speers, who qualified second at zones in shot put, placed ninth at provincials.

Ben Mickelsen, who was first in the Senior triple jump at zones, came 10th at provincials.

Jakob Finney qualified as an Intermediate at zones in both the 3000m (first) and the 1500m (second). At provincials, he placed 12th and 11th in those events respectively.

Finally, EPC's 4x400 relay team of Alex Flynn, Mickelsen, Brydon Gunderson and Finney placed 14th at provincials after winning the event at zones.

Other EPC athletes with strong results at zones include Sarah Haubrich, who placed first in the 3000m and second in the 1500m; Taylor Vandervaate, who was second in the 400m and third in the 800m; and Cameron Hutchinson, who was second in 800m and third in 400m. As well, Flynn was third in the 3000m.

Boyle School also sent an athlete to provincials. Moe Yamamoto, competing as a Junior girl, placed 13th in the 800m, and 15th in both the 400m and high jump.
